Gas gas gas

On one of my many test i did one this sunday too.

I ran my rib on a freshwater lake at calm weater with me and 1 person 70 liters gas and some home-sickeness.

the test was to see how far / long i could run 1 liter of gas (95 octane).

I mesured the speed with a gps and monitored the rev. and time.

the results follows:

Nr 1 15,5 kts 2600rpm 3min 45sec.
Nr 2 20,0kts 3000rpm 3min 15sec.
Nr 3 28,0kts 4000rpm 2min 15sec.
Nr 4 30,6kts 4170rpm 1min 55sec. WOT.

driving home i did not find eny perquliar about these figures, as i have always learned that fuel/time rate raises fast at max speed.

som time later i realised that it was not at WOT. the consuption / NM. was highest, but at the lowest speed!

the numbers are as follows:

Test Liters / NM distance sec. Liters / hrs.
Nr 1 1,032 1793m 225 15,99
Nr 2 0,920 2006m 195 18,5
Nr 3 0,950 1944m 135 26
Nr 4 1,023 1810m 115 31

I guess the testing will go on for a while, as every modification needs my greedy eyes as petrol here runs for 10,5NOK ( 8.91£)

See y around

You probably weren't planing fully at that speed. Ever tried throttling so that you're only half-ways on the plane. Consumption figures can be alarming!!

This will probably annoy you though, my 150 Opti averages 1.2 nm/litre and can do 1.5nm/litre if I'm careful with the throttle (ie:25-30kts). I'm guessing you're running a 2-stroker then!!

We did that some time ago. We had to follow an other boat who was only going at 15 kn
consumption at:
3kn = 1l/h
5kn = 2l/h
8kn = 15l/h
14kn = 40l/h (that hurts!!!)
and when it starts planing speed goes up and consumption is going down
16kn = 30l/h
25kn = 25l/h
30kn = 38l/h

Not quite awake yesterday , this is what it should read:
