fuel venting from engine?

Wonder can anyone help? I have a mercury 60 efi and have just noticed that when in gear and at idle speed, fuel is venting from a nylon vent outlet at the base of the engine casing at the top of the drive leg. The venting fuel seems to be piped directly from the fuel pump. Why would it be doing that ? Does'nt happen at rev's higher than idle. Many thanks.

I see no one took the bait on this one.

Anyhow for anyones reference, I did find out eventually what the problem was - I rang my service chap and he offered the following solution. It did appear to be an unusual/rare problem.

It was the fuel vapour box ( I think thats the correct description ) Its an aluminium finish capsule on the port side of the engine which has three pipes connected. One a vent pipe. Anyhow apparently this thing has an internal float device contained within which may have stuck.
I disconnected the fuel line and ran the engine dry. I then gave the capsule a few knocks with my fist. Reconnected fuel and re-started engine. Has'nt vented since and everything is now running fine.

Glad you got it sorted out. I didn't comment as I had no idea what was going on...
