Fuel stabiliser

Normally use Quik store but been reading some random American forums there was a huge debate over sta-bil and other brands of stabiliser....

So is quick storms waste of money? Is there better? Cheaper? Price seems to be higher than last time I bought some.

Not used it in a few years due to how often I use boat but used to buy quicksilver stuff at marina, never had problems with it but no experience with alternatives.

The USA doesn't have as good a fuel as us so it is probably a little more critical for them. Although at £1.35 a litre ish it is worth looking after ours too!

There was one for lawn mowers £4 treats a whole gallon hardly worth bothering....... quik store lasted me a couple seasons (2 year life span once the top is off) and treats 200l so perfect for my 70L tank, I gave the rest to a mate last year rather than waste it

I buy at halfords what ever they stock works for me never had problems

Everything from it doesn’t work to it will ruin your engine (anecdotal evidence, of every spring all the ruined/gummed up/ problematic motors were “ treated with stabil last fall”)

Talk of VC100 and other stuff I have never heard of....

45yrs of boating I have NEVER put anything other than petrol (or two stroke mix) in my fuel tank and have never had any issues .......

Nothing spectacular I suppose but travel a lot and use petrol in different countries and petrol stations. One of the feature is "stabilise".

For me I see different problem:
1. it is better to have full tank for vinter to not have any condensation
2. when store fuel in boat tank and it has some ventilation I suppose that it loose some octanes ?

So from one point of view I prefer to have full tank from another half of it and refuel on next season with fresh gasoline (maybe higher octane)

Although I don’t worry about the car...

I guess I’ll get some quikstor when I can, hoping season isn’t over yet....

Says for use on outboard engines I only use end of season with what's left in the tank

Interesting... all the brands scored the same for effectiveness. The only difference being the most expensive was 3x the cost of the cheapest.

interesting the water bit having had my set up for three years and little use i stripped my fuel system down due to the engine problem all i found was a chalk like residue in the filters not massive just a dusting it didnt slow flow at all,but no water/gel at all, i do have a seperator so i can keep an eye on it though. i only started using stabilizer because my AUX on the rib had some bad fuel wouldn't start put new in all ok just carried on with it.
its daft really i never bother with my lawn mower, chainsaw, jet washer etc but then never stuck 20 miles out to sea with them.
