Fuel additives for winter

I am just starting to think about getting things together for the winter period and was wondering what you guys do for the fuel system when "winterising" the boat. I intend to use the boat over the winter too, but it will be on a "stick your head out of the door, see that it looks good and go" basis rather than a regular usage.

So, is there a "best" fuel additive and conditioner that is recommended by all - or is it a compromise, like most things? If I put any in for the winter does it have to be drained out before I can use the boat, or will it be fine to stay in with the engine running at max-chat? I'm guessing that the engine will be fine with the additive in it, but thought I'd ask before I ruin a perfectly good Yammy 115AETL!!

Anything else you do to winterise your boat? Mine is kept on a trailer (angled to let water run to the stern), under a fully fitted cover with the bungs all removed.

Thanks!

I'm at 8 years worth of winters with occasional winter use ranging on my Yam ranging from once in three months to every two weeks . Never used anything apart from a dash of fresh petrol if its been a while.

Hi all

Curious to see what others say as I use my boat like you - I try get out at least once a month in Winter, and so don't do anything special with the engine (Yam 60hp 2 stroke) compared to what I do everytime... Which is flush through with water via muffs when I get home, and let the engine stop by disconnecting the fuel line so it runs out of fuel, thus ( I assume) not leaving any old fuel or oil in the carbs etc.

Usually have the service in January.

Look forward to the advice from others :o)

Steve

Last year (having only bought it in November) I didn't do anything with it other than the usual flush through with fresh water when I get home - I didn't even empty it of fuel, and it seemed fine. But it does sound as though that's what most do, so I might be doing the same again this year.

I was serviced last month (after possibly up to 5 years of not having been according to the service book) and I'm happy it's now running as sweet as can be.

In all the years I've been boating and that is many I have never added anything other than fresh fuel. Works every time
