thanks for the tip 'bout the click nos. i think i've got it figured; its a 3 layered circular hypalon patch a bit larger than the transom hole that's glued to the transom just above that hole. or is the third layer merely
a rectangular strip that connects the transom and the round patch thereby creating a hinge? am i getting closer??

Pretty much but it's square rather than round-it just covers a round hole.It's stiffer that way.
All it needs to do is to be rigid enough not to get pushed into the flooding hull by weight of water when you stop but be flexible enough not to impede water getting out-hence the single layer as a hinge.

hey Nos, i just slapped on my version of your hull flooding inhibiter flap.
its more of a prototype really b/c i used sikaflex and some screws to glue the two pieces together and to the transom. will let it dry 'till the w/end
and then give it a sea trial. hope it works!?!

Is that a set of smart tabs i can see in the pic and if so how do you find them ?

after hearing about the trim tabs from boatster and then seeing how ollyit
installed his (on his helpful build page) i slapped some on mine and they are great. its an easy install and the performance of the rib is now better;
a bit faster, more stable and quicker to plane.
