Finalising spec Ribcraft 6.8 with 175 or 225 Hp

Hi I am finalising the specification of my Ribcraft 6.8

At first I was opting for a 6.4 with a Suzy 175. Now the boat has changed to 6.8 and the engine staid 175. Should I change it for the Suzy 225 hp V6?

The 175 is for a special prize. the extra 50 pony's add GBP 62,44 per pony!

Please let me know the pro's and con's.

cheers

Q.

You'd never regret the extra HP on a boat that size.

What part of the world do you hail from?

AS usual I have to agree with Willk, the extra will be well worth it and if you do not do it you will kick yourself!!
Many happy hours with her and remember and post some pics.

Hi

I will do trips across Europe. Mainly North Sea (coast - Netherlands) and English Channel.
Inland I will use it as a work boat.

Cheers,

The 175 is a good motor, if its a special price this is good. If money were no object go for the 300, there's not much difference in weight between all of them over 200hp.

The torque is impressive out of the 175, see if you can try one from ribcraft, they have demo boats.

What's theweight difference?

With merc optimax going from 175-200 moves from a 2.5l block to a 3.0l so unless you mone to 225 or more, is it worth it.

Also think fuel economy? Generally what speed will you be doing? Is economy important, long cruises on the plane, or do you want/need those ponies?!!!

Our 6.3 humber op with 175 is more than sufficient I'd have thought for most. 50 mph 2up with 140litres. Ask someone with a 6.8 though.

At risk of disagreeing with my comrades the 175 is the better choice IMO , big is nice,... but costs,.. and frankly .. knob waving is strictly a spectator sport for your hull.. 175 will do nicely if you want a few piddling knots extra get the 225 .. but I wouldnt

I'd fit the biggest engine possible although the 175hp will probably do the job fine.

225 Opti.
Just 'cos it's a Ribcraft, you're not obliged to fit a Soozook.

Jaysus lad, you're slowing down.

It'll be the Memoirs next. You'll need a catchy title though.

How about "Slow Strokes - Two 'Oars and a boat". Hmmm?
