Ficht or Vmax

Hi guys

In considering an engine choice I would appreciate all opinions. I am considering a three year old ficht 225 or a same age Yamaha Vmax 250. suggestions welcome:

What leg lengths are they?

And is the Yam a HPDI?

Yam vmax of Ficht

Both long shaft.
I understand the vmax to be a souped up HPDI. Am I correct in this?

I might be wrong, but I thought the Vmax was different to the HPDI, maybe even a carb engine. and again maybe incorrectly, thought they had a reputation for being a bit thirsty. Although tuned for grunt etc give good performance.

The Ficht at three years old should be one of the later spec well sorted ones just one step removed from an etec, and good on fuel.

Just my opinion.

Vmax can be either carb or HPDI.

I think 2003 was the year they changed from carb to HPDI but don't take that as gospel! Anyway, be careful to check which one you're being offered.

The Later HPDI Vmax would make a good buy if it's what you want. They are higher output than the standard 200HPDI (about 220 if I remember correctly), but based on the same 2.6 litre block, and I believe they have a different gearbox and low water pickup. They only come in long-shaft (not extra-long) so make sure it's suitable for your transom.
