I still haven't come to any conclusions about this. As well as the engine seems to be running, I keep having flashbacks to my old 2-stroke that was also running GREAT... right up to the second it blew up. Twice.

I think I just answered my own question, didn't I?

You did. Our optics given a lot of grief which in the end was a chafing wire shorting out causing a misfire. Engine is now running sweet, but although there was no catastrophic failure, the labour hours and other parts etc soon built up diagnosing it. Take the warranty and enjoy peace of mind boating.
