Evinrude steering

Firstly can I say a big thanks for all the great help I've had from this forum this year.
A really useful resource, Thanks.

We bought an oldish 5.4 Humber rib and I want to put our spare Evinrude 55hp on the back.
The engine (model SE55RSYW) does not seem to have the year in the code so I'm guessing that the engine is late 90's.

It was used previously in a twin setup and thus does not have a Steering/tilt tube fitted.

So the questions are,
Where can I get a suitable tube and is it easily fitted as currently it just looks like one long m12 bolt.

I do have an external transom steering link for the engine which has never been used but I've been told that these are more trouble than they're worth, is this correct?
