On Sat after noon i started the engine and all was well, then after 30 seconds the engine died and low oil light and check engine light both came on. i have tried to restart the engine a few times and it doesn't even turn over and both the lights come on, has anybody got any ideas. The oil tank is three quarters full.

Thanks

Tom

Can you turn the flywheel by hand?

What year is the motor?

Sounds like a poor connection - check the battery leads and any battery cut out switch. Make sure all connections are clean and sound. The battery switch itself may be at fault, so you may want to try by-passing this if everything elso looks ok.

Earlier FICHTs were prone to exploding, but I'm told they were ok from 2003 - the year of manufacture should/could be stated on the serial number plate on the motor.

Ahh Haa...

This happened to me earlier this year. I went to run up the outboard on the drive and zilch!!

There is an in-line fuse to the left of the fuse panel cover. It will have a rubber cap and the mini blade fuse will be underneath. Check this! It's a starting circuit fuse that supplies extra power to the injectors etc.. during the cranking and starting stage.

Have a look and hopefully it'll be this that's blown.

Just been looking at the manual and I'm not sure if this is your problem. The fuse is just for extra Voltage for starting, not needed when the engine has started. It's still worth looking at however, because it might be stopping you from cranking. As for the oil warning lights etc...

Have a look at a couple of pages from the manual I've scanned for you.

the problem was that the engine had shut it's self down as it had over reved compaired to it's throtle position, the fault code was 57 i think. £265 and the engine is up and running again, was this a fair price to fix it?

Did they replace any parts like a throttle position sensor or just do an adjustment?
