Yep, the Suzuki DF30 or DF40 would be the 4-stroke contenders if not the Etec. How is maintenance on your DF40? Easy/hard to do? Expensive?

Thanks Poly, I will put the tank & battery all the way forward in the bow cubby to compensate as much as possible.

Yes, the Suzuki dealer is literally the nearest local dealer to my home, and the Etec dealer is not much further away and both are excellent people and workshop.

Yes, we can still buy that 2-stroke Yamaha here in Aus: 30HMHL Yamaha 2 Stroke 30hp Long Shaft CV OUTBOARD FOR SALE | Brisbane Yamaha and they are great engines. But it is old-skool, you have to mix the oil, it has a short tiller, no PTT and has the noise/smell as per old-skool as well. That is why the Etec is so interesting, no mixing, no smell, less noise, nice big tiller, but 30Kg heavier.

Itís a pretty wide and heavy SIB, but she does 24mph, and planes with absolute ease, even loaded up.
Thanks Projectile, that is good info! that gives me something to compare with, just what I need

Personally I don't see mixing oil as a great chore, you can get a tiller extension, PTT is not really necessary due to its light weight and the smell... well I see that as a plus point

Youíre welcome. The boat is not fast, but it it is well rounded and the light weight is a good offset. Over 30hp, weight starts to really go up.

DF25A/DF30A is the same motor. DF40 is much bigger and heavier.

My DF30A is pretty simple to maintain. Not much different than any other 4 stroke motor. First year I did the oil change and lower unit oil myself. Second year I went to a professional mechanic and he charged me 3 hours of labor.

Etec

I've been running Etec's for about 12 years. Everything from 25 -225 hp and have had great luck with them. we use them recreationally as well as with the fire department. I went with an Etec for our new fire boat as they are as close to idiot proof as possible. No complaints from any of my customers who run them either.

Overheat- it tells you
Low oil- it tells you
Out of fuel- Hmmm, wish they added a beeper for that too but oh well, maybe next time they will check before leaving the dock.

Thanks, yes this is why I like the ETECS. What do you think of putting the 40Hp (113Kg with tiller) on the Highfield Reef/Club 460?
