I average about 70:1 using XD100 (the engine is set to XD100)

With the engine set to run on XD50 you would be using around 50:1.

I on long runs I average 4200RPM and about 35 knots however if I nail it for long periods at say 40 knots (5200 RPM) then the usuage is higher.

If Roy has done his extended testing you should be clear of the extra oil period however I would use the oppurtunity of a large rib with loads of storage space to stock up on as much oil as possible

I have used about 4 x 3.8 litre cans of oil this year and have done about 50 hours of usuage.

Hmm. I might get a bit more shipped then... or maybe switch to XD100. I'll have to check out the respective prices, but I seem to remember thinking that the cost of XD100 was a lot more than the 40% difference in oil consumption.

Decisions decisions

Thanks all

The price of the XD50 I'm getting was a bit less than that but I've asked for a price for the XD100 for comparison. Ta for the link

Stephen, seeing how difficult and expensive it is for you to get stuff like this shipped I would keep your engine on XD50 so at least if you run low you can use another good quality TCW3 oli until you can get another load of XD50 sent over.

XD50 is still a really good oil you will just use a little more of it. (20%)

This has not been my experience with the 90hp etecs.

I ran one side on XD50 settings and the other on XD100 settings (an unfortunate mistake ), the XD50 side was barely visible while the XD100 side was about 50% full...

I was doing long cruises at lowish revs, which may account for it.

Tut tut you will get this thread bilged!!

I have an accessory on order so that changing oil types should not be an issue

Next question. I read somewhere (forget where) that XD100 is smoke free but on TCW3 (which presumably includes XD50) can make the engine smoke a bit, any truth in this from owners on here / if so is it when idling/trolling or WOT or what? I had a 'two-smoke' before and would prefer to go smokeless if possible...
