Etec 60 hp broken saddle (transom bracket)

I have read on a different forum that a 60 hp etec has broken the starboard saddle on a ribcraft. The saddle was circa 5mm above the transom and was not directly supported by the transom. The rib appeared to be used for wind surfing training. This is the fourth such break that I know about. In all cases the engines were on ribs. In all cases they were 60 hp etec and in all cases the saddle was not supported by the transom. From the photos it would appear that the break line/ fracture line is the same as the other three reported on in Ribnet.

I notice that there are no such reported failures in the 40/50 hp versions of this engine (same engine detuned)

Not good

i was the person who had two breaks on the transom bracket . i too go through the surf to get out to sea over a sand bar . the second time evinrude refused to fix it under warranty saying because there had been other examples doesnt mean theres a fault with the design . will be interesting to see if they repair the new case
