Not required until next june, but anyone had one done recently?

I rang our two local Rude agents today, one wanted £207+parts+VAT. When I asked what parts would be required, I was told that they'd check the impeller and plugs and decide whether they needed replacing. I suggested, that after 3 seasons use, I'd quite like them replaced.

Robin Curnow (Penryn) said they'd get back to me with a price, but didn't.

Yes, well perhaps you should have asked the Polite agents.

The spark plugs are an arm and a leg - if they're OK, would you still change them on general principles? The impeller fair enough...

Well, working on the premise that Opti plugs are also an arm and leg and are replaced annually (if main dealer serviced), the Etec items should be about due at 3 years.
What are your plug replacement intervals?

Same as yours, natch. But I do the annual service thingy and have 'em visually checked. If OK, we leave 'em in. Your stealer seems to of the same opinion.

There was a US seller that did complete Service kits on eBay however they seem to have stopped. From memory they supplied new plugs, impellor, new Seals for the Gearbox drain and fill plugs, new thermostats seals (so you can remove and test the stats), fuel filter cartridge, Gearbox oil

When the time comes my engine will be out of wty so I will be doing my own service as other than the impellor change its fairly straight forward.

I've already ordered new plugs and impeller for mine and it's not due for 2 months

Why would a dealer (or in fact anybody) go to the bother of pulling an engine to bits to look at the impeller and then not change it while they were in there?

How many hours have you done so far?

I have just had to replace my plugs at 130 hours which is about the longest they should go before being replaced. I was starting to see poor idling with stalling when dropping back to idle. New plugs was the answer.

Just spoken to Ian @ Liverpool Powerboats. He said that the plugs will definitely need replacing. As Chris says, it'll become lumpy at low revs. Mine is now showing 122hrs, which will be 130+ by the time the service is due.

According to Ian, it's box off, replace oil, check impellor and replace if required, change plugs and filter, run-up on diagnostic equipment. 4.5hrs +parts +Vat= £450 approx.

Not bad as if i'd bought an Opti, I'd be £900 out on servicing already and, partially deaf.

TBH, I only found Opti racket an issue at low speeds. Wind 'em up and they're no nosier than most other O/Bs and the wind noise takes over.

I've got a nice high console so wind noise is pretty much nil. Certain rpm's are louder than others but I find it's when both engines are in sync they really seem to howl

Yes I noticed on the 'Bumpy Ride' video you posted a couple of weeks back that the soundtrack was, erm, slightly dominated by one feature sounded good though

I always really liked the noise of the old V4 2 stroke on my Humber and am looking forwards to the song of a V6 bellowing its carbon footprint

Between 1700 and 2000 RPM is when the engines switch modes between stratified fuel delivery to homogenous hence the slight lumpiness you can get sometimes between those RPMs.
