Engine service

I am contemplating servicing the engine on my rib, it is a yamaha F50 four stroke, three years old and done 40 hours. Is there a service schedule or book like the Haynes manual for cars available?

Hopefully you've changed the oil, filter and lower unit lube already?

Changing the plugs is probably not needed with only 40hrs. The impeller should be changed. Check the on-engine fuel filter for grunge, replace if its not white.

Other than that not much left to do. Don't mess with the timing or anything else if its running as it should.

if you do you will null the warranty and that engine is still worth a lot of money so I would take it to your dealer.

Not in the US. Service can be done anywhere, but the user should retain receipts and the like as proof it has been done. Don't know where the OP is (Spain?), but it *may* be the same.

Mercury seem to be reaching out to the DIY service brigade:

But they still expect you to get a dealer to service it otherwise you wont get your 5 year warranty!!

I was just referred to this post. This information is absolutely incorrect. Can you please post mercury documentation supporting this statement? You are an authorizred mercury dealer??

then the standard manufacturer’s warranty will apply – 3 Years for

Maybe in Canada the dealers are a bunch of robbing ***** but over here most are pretty good and have to stick to rules set out by the UK distributor and MPE. I dont make up the terms and conditions of the warranty nor do i have much influence on a warranty claim. It all goes to Mercury they look up the service history that's been logged on line by the authorised dealer if its not been maintained to there spec they warranty is void that simple.
