Engine hours

I have acquired a RIB with a (allegedly) 1998 Honda 50hp 4 stroke.

There is no hour meter so I have no way of knowing how much its done.

But

If I acquire a hour meter (genuine Honda I guess), will it show the correct hours? I suppose I'm really asking "does the ecu store the cumulative hours"?

I am putting a wanted advert in the For Sale section.

yes is the very short answer but I am not the Honda expert in the company so if you call the number in my signature and ask for Cameron he will help you out.
