Apologies to Bajan for the digress,
Thanks,

Hi Robert,

I get similar spray by the sounds of it, and it does disappear as the engine is trimmed out. How far? not sure how to describe it really, but its quite a long way out - just past the second line on my trim gauge. Rough weather does require it to be trimmed in a lot again though; otherwise I end up ventilating all the time.

I would just give it a try, you will soon notice if you go too far.

Still clueless

Anyone else in this vast expanse of experience and technical knowledge have an answer to my question. Has the melting pot of information dried out?

What age is your engine and is it 4 or 2 stroke?

Well can't find anything in the manual about a counter so I guess its not a standard piece of kit.

Why not take the cowling off and have a play. See what it does depending on whether the engine/ignition is on/off. It could be counting in 100's rather than 60's.

Bajan,

There is a Mercury/ Mariner technical forum on www.marinepower.com

They will know for sure what it is, if its a genuine Merc/ Mariner part.

Hi Robert!
Nothing yet and judging from a comment from another forum user, the replies to queries aren't forthcoming. Will keep you updated with any info.

Cheers
