Valid coments there Hugh . I would always go for the bigest engine for the model of car / boat etc .

I guess I want to choose the engine then the boat to fit it in a way . I wan't a small rib say 4.5m so Iam thinking 50 is about the power I want .

I was talking to guy on the water today with a Humber 5m with a mariner 75 4t . He said it would do 0.5 Litre of fuel to the mile , which sounded good to me . He also felt that his boat was maybe a little over engined .

Economy matters to me I wan't a boat I can just use and go miles in without having to worry about the cost .
Also unlike a bike where engine noise gets left behind at speed a boat just gets noisier so the quietest engine is what i also want. I can see the pleasure of lovely engine noise as you open it up etc but when cruising a boat engine just drones away and wears me down .

I,ve owned Opti's, Yammies Honda's and Tohatsu and I felt the Yammie was the best engineered and certainly the one that held it's value best! I wouldn't buy a Honda unless the deal was very very sweet!

they are a bit like me overweight and underpowered!
