Engine and gear oil in bulk?

Am I right in thinking that £45 for 4l of premium branded 2t oil at 100:1 is 10p a litre on top of your base fuel cost? Vs 4.8p for the cheap oil or a saving of £52 a year on £1300 fuel bill? if your burning 1000l of fuel a year? Or is my maths wrong?


I use Stihl branded oil in garden tools that double the price of quicksilver or yamalube!

The manufacturers set the standard for oil and our resident oil specialist confirms that most tcw3 oils smash that standard. Why pay extra for a name on the bottle?
I could understand the "£25 isnt much of a saving" logic If the cheaper oil was inferior, but it isnt so why pay £25 extra to have a fancy name on the bottle?

I read something on another marine forum where a guy with a Mercury posted something like "I just go and buy Quicksilver oil from my local dealer, I know it's the correct oil and it saves me going on an internet forum worrying over oil choices".

Yeh I'm sure thats what the manufacturers want people to do when they price their oil at twice or 3 times the price of other oils to the same standard

I have to say I agree, I could get 5L of Rock mp3 ultra for £25 less than I paid last week for the quicksilver dfi oil.
I'm on my fourth drum of quicksilver this year. [emoji848]
