E-Tec 60

Hi I have just upgraded from a 3.1 sib to a 5m Destroyer with an E-Tec 60.
With my previous engines a yam5 and a tohatsu 9.8 I always got them into a watertank and flushed them til the remaining fuel in the engine ran dry.

whilst flushing my etec with muffs a couple of days ago I got talking to a guy who said he had been told by a mechanic that running an injected engine dry would actually cause harm.

I have read through the etec owners manual and it mentions nothing about this subject.

I would be grateful for any advice.

I should add that I would normally only run an engine dry when I wasn't sure when I would be going back out again.

Cheers

My understanding is that there's no need to run the fuel out of the ETEC. The fuel system is pretty well sealed up. The issue in the US is the ethanol in our fuel, which sucks moisture into your tanks like you nobody's business. You want to try to store your tanks as empty as possible now, not topped off like the old days.

Ali T - what kind of performance are you getting on the Destroyer with that E-TEC 60?

Guy P - Well I was out a couple of days ago, 2 of us weighing approx 85 kgs each plus 25 ltrs of fuel and the top speed on the gps said 29.7 kts.

when I apply wot there is a good delay of a few seconds before anything really happens and then suddenly she's away.

since i share the boat with my 18yrs old daughter i feel the 60 is a good all round size and we are all happy with the top speed.

if it was just me i would probably have gone for the 75.
