cant get it to start !! merc50

new battery new plugs and even new steering wheel and cable ....just gone to start it after winterising last year put new plugs in and it wont start looks like a good spark but the plugs are bone dry after a lot of trying , is this usual or is something wrong been trying for about 10 mins!
all 3 plugs still bone dry just undone drain plugs on carbs and plenty of fuel coming out of each carb

i did all the carbs and plug holes last winter with quick silver winteriser

thanks

i got the prop in an old water tank and theres plenty of oil on the top of the water !

take out a couple of spark plugs put a small amount of petrol in the cylinders and put the plugs back in and see if that will clear it.

you could try squeezing the primer bulb whilst you turn the engine over you might get fuel through the pump even if its faulty enogh to start it at least it may give you some idea. you say that you have the engine in a tank of water its not too deep in is it as you may have too much back pressure and with it been winterised could be that whats stopping it firing up . i usually put about a good teaspoon full down each cylinder ,

Sounds like the reed valve may be stuck shut.

sounds like the fuel in the carb has gone off. Goes all sticky and gooey and blocks the jets and makes the float stick etc. Might have to take the carb off and give it a clean out.

if you are up to it i would strip the carb down as much and soak it overnight in clean diesel and then see if any small holes are blocked with a thin piece of fuse wire,, problem with carbs is the very tiny holes that become blocked within the block itself, did you gently push the reed valves see if any were stuck or open when you had it off ,bit late now but i have never used winterisation spray on any of my outboards in 35 years of having one ,seems to cause more problems than they solve . all i do is a drop of 2 stroke oil down the cylinders and block up the intake with a oily rag then turn it over bby hand a few times every month or so ,

RIBase
<edit> spotted your pic-98 merc 50.

Spray some premixed fuel directly down the carb mouths. If your reeds are sticky this may help free them up.
