Biggest outboard engine?

Just wondering, does anyone know what the biggest (HP) outboard engine is?

Thanks

Codders knows, it was something like a 400hp Evinrude from the 70's or 80's.

Depends on your definition of an outboard motor
In the defence equipment journal on my desk theres an outboard propulsion unit for barges etc. The powerhead cowling is a 20 foot shipping container housing a CAT v12 engine. 1500KW

The old Evinrude V8 2 stroke was often taken out to about 450hp. Where's the progress eh?

Yes the Verado 350 weighs about 300kg but the Mercury 300xs weighs only 225kg - I love 2 strokes!!!

I just wish someone did a 2 stroke bigger than 300hp. Imagine a new ETEC V8 400hp - drool......................

They cheat on the bigger engines - they now have an hydraulic option but the Arabs on their dhows just used a scaffolding pole!!!

I think there was an article about this in a boating magazine either late last year or earlier this, that Mercury had produced a hydraulic tiller and that it was as easily controllable as a remote system.

Or did everybody already know that.

Damn! Should have read the posts more carefully before sticking my oar (or tiller) in.

Cue laughter!

The Beard shuffles off looking at the floor hoping no-one will remember.
