Biggest Outboard

Looking at getting a rib something ideally around 6m and just wondering what is the biggest outboard you could fit onto one this size, could one this size take 2 outboards. Just want something as fast as possible

If speed is all that matters to you then I think you should find the most efficient make of Rib first as all 6m ribs with the same size engine will not do the same speed. When you have the fastest hull speak to the manufacture and ask them the question.

How important is it that you stick to the max rated hp for that particular boat though? If say you had one rated to max 150 and i wanted to hang 200 hp off the back?

In my opinion ribs are not about speed. I am sure there are faster boats out there than ribs. Ribs are about being being able to maintain a good speed in an adverse sea.

It is also very diffucult to answer your question, as a shallow Vee will give you the fastest boat on very flat water, but usless in any sort of a chop. Also the largest engine will not give you the fastest possible speed, if the engine is so large as to put the boat out of balance, thus making the power unusable.

Could you put a 200 horsepower on a ring 6 metre for example?

HI, AFAIK Ring don't make ribs, but if you had the Ring 18 with a 200hp you would see speeds in excess of 60mph. Not for a novice but good fun.

Absolutely nothing to stop you putting any engine you want onto any hull, the limiting factors are the size of your wallet, cojones, brain (inversely proportional) & the hull. As long as the hull will support the weight. I'm a big believer in maxing out the engine size on a hull, go for it👍

Twin engines are possible smaller than 6m too, at that size it's rarely about more power though. Your questions are coming across as quite niave. What boating experience do you have? what's your budget?
