Best 250hp engine

Hi All,
I need a new 250hp engine for an 8m commercial (dive charter) RIB. The Verado is too thirsty & the Suzuki is NOT an option.

What would you recommend?

G250

I've just been going through this dilema and have I think decided on the Yamaha F225, as been advised to avoid the Yamaha F250, the Suzuki DF250 seem to blow up, and as yet can't seem to find much/any negative issues with the Yamaha F225. Also looking at the Opti's just investigating that avenue now.

Whops… I know guy who has just stuck 2 of these on the back of a RIB.

How are these units blowing up?

Yes I would also go with the ETEC but Suzuki have a good reputation and have just recalled all the 250s for mods to the engine management system which will hopefully cure the prob. Other than that they are great engines.

The 250 E-tec, the best two-stroke at the moment.
I've the Evinrude 250 Direct Injection and I love it. Fast acceleration, nice sound and economical. I posted an article on the fuel economy here on RIBnet:
http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread....413#post155413
Have a look at the diagram posted on 02 July 2006, 14:22 on that page.
OK it's not an E-tec but they are even better.

I think for commercail operation it boils down to the 225f Yamaha, which you will have to get the valve clerances checked. or the 225 Opti ..... Long in the tooth now well proven ... but 2 stroke oil to pour in .... but no valves.

its only because I have two - and am therefore a bit bias.

- 250 HPDI Yam. HPDI 2t.

- my decison was based on readily available yam dealer
got a good deal at 12000 euros +vat/engine
previous installation yam.

Engines have now 150 hrs + and apart from a faulty water pump -back plate
they run as smooth as a ***** bottom.

There was alot of bad mouthing when these motors came out in 2004 with the big blocks- and was down to bad soft.
Hope this helps

Jonathan

if you have a look at the ribs fired out by the boys at quinquarimarine you will spot that the e-tec is high up the list of units fitted and I am guessing that they know a thing or two about commercial craft.

We have a 250 Yamaha F/Stroke only done 100 hours but not a probleam
We had a 225 Yamaha F/Stroke that was great too but the 250 is a better engine better on fuel quicker out the blocks,
We had the chance to spec our rib from new and did much research.
for long term ownership it had to be Yamaha, Must give prise to lansdown marine at Itchanor who serviced the engine, very profesonal, even put a new prop bag on FOC abait with there name on it but hey.
