anything wrong with storing an engine?

Hi my buddy has a mercury 40HP 2 stroke engine, that was almost never used (only about 10 hours or so), after the last use it was maintained and then stored.. it has been in storage for at least 10 years, maybe 12
Do you think that its usable? what do we need to out look for?

It'll need a new impeller at least.

You sound inexperienced with engines-in which case your best bet is to take it to a dealer and get them to spend an hour on it checking it over. There could be any number of things wrong with it from standing.

Thanks, we will take it to a dealer, as you say we are both inexperienced with engines, i just wanted to get a feel of it, im inlined to use the 40HP on the 4.2m RIB if it will work properly (the whole idea of buying an open 4.2m with no console, battery bilge pum, etc... was to be as hassle free as possible), the other option would be to put on a new 25HP, the new 40HP is just too expensive,
cheers
