Any more power from a Johnson 8hp?

2004 2 stroke 8hp Johnson.
Any mods or conversions to get more power, i.e. Carb and exhaust swap?
Is it a restricted 15hp?

Many thanks

Your best bet is to start with parts diagram and cross check against 8hp and 15hp. If it is the same block, then it's usually different carbs and increased exhaust manifold. 2004 Johnson Outboard Parts

Sometimes more hassle than it's worth. Very tidy short-shaft Yamaha 4-stroke here. Absolute steal. Yamaha 15hp - OSM Boats

Not a bad price but 4 stroke and 55kg for that weight I could stick with my blackmax 25! Lol

Short answer is no, your outboard is not a restricted 15hp. With the exception of the carb and intake manifold, your outboard shares virtually all of the other parts & components with the Johnson 6hp 2 strokes (as well as earlier model year Evinrude 6hp 2 strokes).

Likewise, the 15hp Johnson/Evinrude 2 strokes share the same components with the 9.9hp 2 strokes, again with the difference being the carb and intake manifold.
