Age of Mariner 80hp Blueband and Avon SR5.4 help please

I have just recently bought an Avon SR5.4m with an 80hp blueband Mercury engine.

Took it out down the Menai Straits and around the stacks at Holyhead at the weekend and managed 27mph.

Just wondering how do I determine the age of the hull and engine.

a plate on the back of the transom is AVB19600M831-A does that means it's a 1960 hull ?

and the engine serial is 9367654


The tubes are in perfect condition with no patches anywhere, the only "negative" is where the bow dodger was removed leaving the glue stain.

Also, wondering if that's all the power I am going to get from the engine. Sea state was reasonable, not flat, with 2 up and 40 litres of fuel.

Your serial # comes back as an 1980/81 engine.

Im guessing your engine is 1981 -82 ,as for your speed you will need to know what rpm your engine is doing at wide open throttle first .
The hp on Mercury engines was rated at the flywheel upto 1984 and from the prop thereafter and your engine then became the the new 75 hp in 1984, prop rated.
Max rpm for your engine is 5000 - 5500

I don't have any guages on the boat, so have no idea what rev's it's doing. Is it worthwhile ( economically speaking ) to retro fit a rev counter / speedo to this age of engine ?
