About to strip and clean carbs on Suzuki DT25

I've read some great generic tips on this forum (what a great resource), but does anyone have any model specific hints?

Thanks

Use an ultrasonic cleaner with a mixture of vinegar & rubbing alcohol. Do not add any soap, or you'll neutralize the vinegar.

The vinegar will dissolve deposits. The alcohol will degrease the carburetor. Tough deposits can be dissolved with a strong carburetor cleaner (I prefer ones that contain Methylene Chloride, but this chemical may be restricted in the UK? It is fairly caustic.)

Don't jam stuff down the needle orifices, or you'll enlarge them, which will make your outboard run awful.

I had one of them on my old SR4..... Only had the carbs off once, and even admitting Iv'e had a couple of beers nothing jumps out my memory other than the slightly crazy "one bolt does all" to hold them & the air box onto the engine so you kind of ideally need to be a bit of a gymnastic octopus to reassemble it all......

When reassembling, remember when you set the idle mix do it with the boat afloat or deep enough in a bin to simulate that as fine tuning the idle mix on muffs will result in no start in the water due to the back pressure on the exhaust.

It's also possible to tweak slightly and make it a 30.... but you need a new cam for the mechanism. Investigate the centre carb and all will become clear!

Would section 4:17 onwards in this service manual help?

Already found that, and it looks very helpful. Thanks

The original problem is better now; it is good at low revs and high revs. Occassionally, if it is (I guess) at the point of transitioning from idle jets to main jets it sometimes cuts out.

Any suggestions on what to clean/adjust?

This is very common on Mercury/Mariner 15s when the idle mixture is a bit weak on the ajustment screw.... you could try quarter to half a turn out and see if it helped.

Half a turn worked a treat. Cheers.
