The boat is a bit underpowered, but the Hondas are generally 'boringly reliable.'

how old is the Honda and has it been a private engine ( 6 years warranty) or commercial (2 years and tend to have silly hours on them i.e. 3,000 +.

as for how good, they are reliable, don't drink much fuel compared to others, great warranty, easy and cheap to service and happy to buy it off you.

I got my Honda 90 serviced and it was not cheap! the Honda service kit was an eye watering
£189.99 inc vat + labour which took the bill to nearly £400.00

Commercial usage @ 200 hours service intervals and 1000 hours a year = £2000 a year in servicing.

Lets say i worked a full week ( which most of us do) and I fished for 2000 hours a year that would be £4000.00 in servicing to keep my 2 year commercial warranty

Oh yes Honda's are reliable!!! at skimming off any profit you might make from fishing on service charges for their 2 year commercial warranty

Should have bought a 90 Opti 2 stroke like I was going too !!

ADI-who does your servicing?

clyde outboards do my servicing (on a mariner 100 4 stroke) and it is very reasonable and a damn site cheaper than £400.

cheers

Xk59D, thanks for reply. I am guessing he is using another dealer and as I dont want to talk about the competition I will say we offer a mobile service and cover from the borders to inverness including the Oben and fort william area.

ADI if you are in this area why dont you call us.

It does not matter what Honda dealer you use my Honda's are expensive to service.

The almost £400.00 for a service would not have been any cheaper at Clyde outboards and if indeed they offered me a mobile service would have been more expensive because traveling time would have been charged.

Taken from the service page on clyde outboards website.

Labour only to service a Honda 90 four stroke £204.00 inc vat
Honda service kit £189,99 inc vat
Total for one service £393.99 inc vat

I rest my case..... Honda's are not cheap to service, the unfortunate thing is I have two.

In 2 years of commercial usage to keep up my commercial warranty the service charges for me would amount to almost £8000.00

Help me here! Are most modern engines reliable, I would say so.

Most other manufacturers give the commercial user a 1 year warranty.

Honda are not miles more reliable than the other outboard guys, I think their two year warranty is to put money in the dealers pocket and take it out of mines the end user.

I got quoted £500 for 2 engines all in from my local dealer. Best thing is to ring round different dealers so you can barter them down a bit

Sorry you feel that way and it is clear we are not going to convince you otherwise but your post is wrong on many levels and I can tell you are unhappy, however why don't you call me and we can help you.

OK Clyde-outboards.

Here is my side as a Honda outboard user:

I fish with two Honda 90 fuel injection engines. They have a 2 year commercial warranty and within that period I must use genuine Honda parts.

Honda service kit £189.99 (Any Honda dealer)
Service charge £204.00 ( Your own website)
Service intervals 200 hours ( From My Honda owners manual)

£393.99 per service per engine. That's £787.98 per service for me.

I've been doing some sums tonight because Dave said I was so wrong on so many levels......... and he was right! I had under estimated my Honda service costs.

2 years fishing (under the Honda commercial warranty) at 1500 hours per year approx with two Honda 90hp's = 15 services approx.

Unless I have made a mistake that works out at £11819.70 for service costs.

My Honda's seem expensive to service to me.

PS: Almost forgot the service kit does not include the engine oil. That's 4.5L per engine so that's 9L per service for me another £54.00

Oh and I need the pre-filters changed so that's.................... forget it, does anyone want to buy two Honda 90 fuel injection engines ? I'm thinking about changing to another manufacturer.

yes, happy to take them and you are still wrong but I notice instead of calling ( you will need to do this so that we can buy them) you just put another post on here that is still wrong.

as I asked before if you actually want to get what you think is a problem solved then please call, if however you want to just slag Honda off please feel free and I will ignore you posts.

my number once again so that I can either solve your problem or buy your engines is 0759 563 8185 oh and you can call any time from 7am-8pm 7 days a week.

Dave,

I have stated the facts about my Honda servicing costs on my posts.

I have never said my Honda engines are not reliable or any good or slagged them off. I have only stated that they are expensive to service.

I am not selling my engines Dave, it was just a flippant remark, you have to take it in the context it was written in.

You keep saying I'm wrong but I have stated the fact's about my Honda service costings.

If you think I'm wrong please prove what I am saying is wrong and that if I used Clyde outboards my service costs would be any less.
