80's Evinrude 4hp ? Help.

I picked this up today, well saved it from going to the skip. Model No. E4BRCTA which I've tried to Google, but have made little progress to determine the year and sourcing parts.

I've worked out the following going by model No.

Evinrude
4hp
Euro Rope Start
Counter Rotation

...and that's it, can't fathom the rest.

It runs and drives the prop no problem, however the last owner says it's not pumping the water and believes it should be coming out the holes where the exhaust is?? It's had a new impeller.

I've read about inlets and outlets being blocked but I don't know where they're located!
Any advice welcome, as you see I ain't got a clue.
Thanks,
Fraser.

I may be visiting the local skips tomorrow

I'ts a 1983 model it does pass water out of the exhaust, if there is no water comeing out check the small holes are clear (I think there is 8), if they are you could try checking the water pump has the correct gromet as a new pump comes with three diffrent gromets people tend to use the longer gromet as its easier to aline with the water pickup pipe, if all is ok down there you may have to remove the cylinder head and water jaket and clear the water passage's, this should be done while the lower unit is of so you can force water up to the head ensuring all is clear, you will need a head gasket, and water jaket gasket, they are very easy to work on, a manual would also be a good investment if your planning on keeping it, good luck

Thanks Slate.

I'll check all is clear at the 8 holes, failing that I'll check pump as advised. Unsure on checking the head and waterways, I'll see how things progress. No harm in trying

Aye, I'll have a footer about with it. Checked the 8 holes and they are clear. There's 2 holes at the rear of the prop, would these be the water intake? They were caked with gunge.

At ease. I found the intake, the external screen seems clean.
