All you need is a navman gateway, just a small harness that plugs into your junction box. And of course the Navman unit itself!!

I have a System View Race edition and a gateway to my Northstar M121 which looks the same as the Navman. We are just learning how to use all the info provided. Gavin

... I take it this is only compatible with mercury products, or is this information displayable on any other manufacturers hardware through some common data standard ?

Shame you bought both - the Northstar/Navman (same unit different branding) is IMHO the better display - we put the System View on one of our demo boats and it isn't the best "daylight" display in the world, but the Navman is very good indeed. What does the race edition do that the regular system view doesn't?

Bigmuz - the Smartcraft system is for Mercury compatible products only although other companies are releasing similar products all of the time. Mercury also do the same docking system that they do on the big inboards for the Verados now - you can dock with a joystick!

Cookee, the answer is I'm not sure what it does beyond the regular offering. As we have no dials on the boat I did want something to show engine info while we are looking at the map...I agree with the comment about brightness as the Northstar screen goes brighter on max settings. It also seems to display some info that I don't see on the Race View - more fault info for example.
By the way, we are hopefully back on for a West Country trip this weekend.

It's possible with both systems to tweak them to show what you need to see - both systems will flag up any faults as soon as they happen whatever screen you're in, so you won't have to keep flicking through to make sure everything is ok.

You have my number - call me if you get down our way and I will be happy to help you with whatever I can to do with the boat (and the screens!).

Smartcraft is used only by Mercury and is designed to work with Navman instruments it cannot be used with other products.

NMEA2000 is a new standard that has been introduced that will link systems and will be common between different manufacturers eg Suzuki and Evinrude, Garmin, Lowracne etc have all adopted it already. It has been defined by, and is controlled by, the US based National Marine Electronics Association

Smartcraft is limiting as it only works with the Navman stuff whereas NMEA 2000 allows you to talk to different systems.

Very good, the Digital throttle and the electro hydraulic steering is really good. Doing about 52knts loaded up but the pick up is very impressive for a 4 stroke. Top end its a few knts quicker than the 250EFi's we took off but the pick up alot better.

The Verado throttle response is instant

they give a new meaning to the word 'torque'

Never have I experienced the grip they have on a properly set up installation

I mean .. for a boat .. you would get pressed into the back of your seat when you throttled up .. it really is impressive

What I was really getting at was that you would expect some slip from the props, as you would think they wouldnt be able to transmit the power to the water like that , which was why I used the words "properly set up" in my post. Barrus claim that somewhere around a half two two thirds of the prop should only be in the water iirc, which I would expect on a racing style set up. It just amazes me how it can transmit that thrust the way it does. Also I should point out, this is in reference to already being under way, and not the hole shot, which is a different story!

Yes I see what you mean. I just wish there were some duo prop outboards around. Yamaha did one of 150hp but it never caught on. prob not much point for a 150 but on a 350 it would help a lot.
