275 Verado. 2005 what to look for..?

Morning,

We are looking at ribs again after a little break away from them.

What should we look out for on a 275 Verado year 2005?

Fairly low hours (450 Hours) and service history (havent seen it yet but at least for the last 5 years and maybe before that also)

never actually been on a verado powered rib but have heard mostly good things...

thanks in advance...
Zippy

I have one (275 2005) and it has been great but it is a Gen 1 and there have been various upgrades that you must check have been done.

The only place to look is the Verado Owners Club forum

Information for New/Prospective Owners

Everything you need to know and a lot more besides.

Good luck, until recently there was nothing else like it as a package and everything else felt agricultural. Fly by wire and electric power steering are now more common but in 2005 it was from a different planet.

Many thanks,

i see that they are a little thirsty at the upper end of the rev range but i guess thats to be expected.

Will have a look through that link over the weekend before viewing.

Usual rules apply about service history and getting it checked over via a laptop. Havent found much about specific weak points yet so fingers crossed.

There are a few things you need to check.
Make sure all the ECU upgrades have been done. This will help avoid false alarms
There is a brass fitting in the mid section, down stream from the thermostat, this can corrode and spray water all over the ECU, and should be checked
There was a recall on the shift bell crank that should also have been done.
Have the belt tensioner checked and the top bushing of the supercharger. Cheap to maintain, expensive if not!
Check the power steering hoes that attach to the ram as these will perish over time.

Other than that, services by a Verado certified tech (not all Merc agents are) and regular running (with some WOT) two AGM batteries (they are sensitive to low voltage and the power steering can cause a drain) and the occasional use of Quickleen and you should be good to go.

Also worth checking if/when the pencil coils were changed. The early ones can and do fail causing misfires.

Any recommendations of service agents located of servicing Lymington area?

Maybe looking for someone to check an engine on the laptop and also to provide full service.

What should i be paying for a full service on such an engine?
