2002 Mariner EFI fourstroke

After running in engine yesterday there seems to be a gear rattle when decelerating hard to forward idle.
Any one heard of similar problems?

When you decelerate hard from WOT to forward idle, the engine's rpm drop fast but the boat's speed doesn't. So the propeller spins faster than it should, (rather by the boat's speed nor by the engine's power), hence that clack- clack- clack noice you hear from the transmission box. Try to decelerate more smoothly, that's it until you go for a proper adjustment.

Thanks for that. Had it checked by Mariner dealer and no fault was found. During normal operation it is fine. I had a 2000 model but this had carbs so when decelerating hard the engine did not cut as quicky due to the damping. With the EFI it cuts real quick, obviously it is not something you do often anyway. Only noticed it when I had to decelerate quick.
The engine itself I am well pleased with. Starts first time every time, stable idle and very smooth, quiet and economical.
