My 75hp 2 stroke just had to have its strater motor brushes replaced. easy job. and I was shocked at the start of the old brushes and cables in the starter.

Wish I would have taken a piccy now as they were brittle and no longer made of copper but more carbon. !!!

all made for a very lazy starter. I went throught extra battery power via jump leads all to no avail.

like new now.

[QUOTE="Jonny2488"]So after a thorough strip down, clean and rebuild of the carbs yesterday and a general clean up, the engine started and ran perfectly

Only problem is that it wouldn't start using the battery, it required the use of the manual pull cord. So I'm thinking I've either got a battery that's not giving out enough juice or a lazy starter motor?

Any thoughts?

Edited from my original post as ive just read back a bit - dont want to start another debate

I'd check all connections, try another battery, then strip and replaces the brushes in the starter.

If you've come this far it'll be rude not to and there's plenty of life in the old dog yet
