Excuse me if I'm making an arse of my self here.....
The carberattor is the thing on front of the engine block, with a black air thing stuck on the top......yes???? Well, this was the bit I removed (the whole thing, not just the black bit....). There was a bit on the side which if I recall revealed a fuel connector, and other on the top which revealed a hole. I also observed two "butterflies" (I belive that is the correct term).

A reather confused Tim....

try removing your air box/intake so that you can see into the carb venturi...ie looking at the butterfly flap.... start the engine and run it up to about half revs and then block the air intake with the flat of you hand until the engine stops...

this will increase the suction on the inlet track and sometimes will suck the debris through a blocked jet........

OK Tim,
I haven’t worked on your particular engine, BUT most that I have worked on have been the same (I say most because what I’m about to say, someone will probably say it’s a load of old b@@lks on your engine)
So here goes, I notice from the start of this thread your engine has 2 cylinders, does your engine have 1 or 2 carburettors?

We’ll take it for now as a single carburettor,
1. Remove the black thingy (air box)
2. Remove carburettor
3. Turn carburettor upside down
4. You should now be able to see 4 screws or bolts 1 in each corner (this is the float bowl)
5. Remove all 4 screws (this is where you get covered in petrol if you haven’t drained it all off first.
6. Inside the float bowl you should be able to see a float (a funny shaped plastic or on older engines cork thingy.
7. The float is usually held in by a pin & sometimes a screw through bent piece on metal to hold it in place.
8. Remove screw (if it has one) then remove the pin
9. This will give you access to the needle-valve (this is what stops too much fuel from getting into the carburettor & flooding it.
10. Now look at the part of the carburettor that you have now uncovered by removing the float & float bowl
11. Hopefully you should now be able to see 2 brass bits sticking out with a slot in each for a screwdriver.
12. These should be your jets (the one with a small hole through it is the slow running jet, & the other is the main running jet.
13. CARFULLY unscrew the jets (make sure you use the right sized screwdriver you don’t want to break them)
14. Try blowing throw them (DON’T SUCK or else you will have to wait a few days to recover it after it has passed through your body) yes I’ve seen it done!
15. If this doesn’t clear it, try poking a very thin piece of wire through.
16. Re-assemble in reverse

IF your engine has 2 carburettors you will have to separate them & do the same for both

Just did the above. I havnt' tested the engine yet, although there was no evidence of a blockage or any bits stuck in the jets. Anyway, we shall soon see when I test it.

OK - just tested the outboard, and guess what, it still stalls. Tired new plugs and new fuel but nothing. How lkely is it to be the HT leads/what would be the syptoms?

Any other suggestions?

I havn't got it going yet; all the local outboard mechanics are very busy winterising outboards. It's a real pain cos' I have three outboards which need servicing at the moment, but noones' willing to take them on. Hopefully I will be able to get it seen next week though.

Update:

Finally got the engine back today after many weeks of it being with the repair man. He said the fuel pump had gone, and that he had put a new one in. Bill came to £150 which pleasently supprised me - my experiance has been bad with outboards repairs!
