Slipway section

Nos4r2's recent post has given me an idea.

What about a slipway section JK? There is nothing better than local knowledge and piccies.

There are some great examples here - well worth a look.

It would be great if people could post pics of the slips they have used along with advice and perhaps a google earth link as well.

What about it???

good idea ,theres nothing no worse than driving miles to a slip only to find your not a member or its unsuitable for your needs,even most of the official guides are sometimes years out of date ,the slip at my club has banned day launches now for quite a while even though its still listed ,kindest regards mart.

Like Chris says, it's already there on boatlaunch. Why reinvent the wheel?

How about a resort/port review section which could include slipways, moorings, accommodation, cruise hot spots, things to see etc.

You can already add/amend information on Boatlaunch. I'm not sure what the update process is after details have been submitted though.

You can auto edit, I did it for a slip that someone was charging for and belonged to the council and the edit came through OK.

Boatlaunch used to be a brilliant site but since they changed it I think it isn't as good.

The photos etc are tiny and the info on each slip is pretty limited.

Local knowledge is priceless. I believe the info I posted on a slip in Cardiff helped some people and the photos on Ribnet tend to be great. Also only someone who has actually used a slip a few times will know all the pitfalls regarding parking - wether you need to pay or not etc etc.

I can see the point about there not being much need due to boatlaunch but I can also see the advantage of more in depth knowledge.

Something I'm trying to find and struggling is info on lakes that allow power boats and prices etc. So I can take my older kids out in the summer. Contacted allot on boatlaunch only to be told no power when the info said they do and a few have been jetski only!

That's what I mean by having more information would be great. If it was decided for this to go ahead on RIBnet then I would be one who would use it allot. And it makes sense as I'd say 90% of members are trailer boaters.

I doubt that has anything to do with it. But have you bothered to update the boatlaunch pages on the local slipways to you? If you haven't - and others haven't - why would the information on here be any more reliable, detailed, up-to-date etc.

Quite simply because the membership here are very active, and have a strong willingness to help others who are like minded, and therefor the information is far more likely to be kept up dated for the benefit of the forums users, not least because of the format here 'A forum', which is simple to post up significant info including pics.

Extremely easy to edit the boatlaunch info - e.g. you just click "edit this place" when you are viewing the slipway, don't think you even need to be logged in and you can upload pictures too. You should also be benefiting from a much wider "user base" as its not 'restricted' to just RIBs - so should be more useful!

You know any forum thread on a given slipway will become full of off topic discussion, random banter, and people will not use the search function so there will be multiple threads on the same topic etc... then no doubt there will be the usual "PM sent" and "PM replied" messages too - just to make sure that finding the useful information is difficult, Boatlaunch means you can search geographically and get the same information for each slipway (a standard set of headings etc).

Does it work on here when someone posts - whats the slip at blah blah like ? - surely it does ? I've seen a few & replied to some. Some slips are RIB freindly some are not - eg two on boat launch near me - one is fine & one is crap , but it doesn't distinguish between the two !
