Haven't read this thread yet, but will when I get home.

I love this site, but it would be nice if there was a section where we could post the pics of women who like to get naked on our boats.

But there is! It's called "Quarantine" and your favourite pics will be in good company. Bring 'em on!

Hi, I've recently joined as a trade member but in the past I have been doing charity stuff on here, I feel a bit uneasy about that so I have now set up a Custom RIB account please can you transfer my trade membership to my Custom RIB account and I will become the 'real' Whisper again for normal chat. Thank you

Not been active much recently due to a number of things. I have tended to dip in and out of RN (like it, but did worry about big guns symbolism when I first saw it ), cannot do that with Facebook very easily, or at least this old fool can't. So I look at FB and contribute very little, I read RN and enjoy the format.
I have only ever met one of the mods, and he is certainly a larger than life character, and likeable. The only time I had overt abuse on here he dealt with it very quickly. I have no personal experience of any of the other mods, so I will keep any opinions I have formed to myself. However, I am amazed at the time they must commit to the forum; couldn't do that with my life and commitments.
Enough rambling, I have no firm suggestions for you John, merely a plea. Less PC, and more tolerance of the 'harder edged' contributors. I feel that RN is slowly but surely edging towards a pink and fluffy non existence.
Finally, the Church was mentioned earlier, great shame those meetings fell apart, anyone interested in getting them going again? Could even be mentioned on the dark side

That's an interesting observation. I've heard it more than a few times and yet there is a group of members who say exactly the opposite! The reality is that there is relatively little actual moderation done, other than the "dusting", which consists of fixing up the blooper reel and some other housekeeping. That said, every month or so someone will need a nudge to keep them right. Most go with the flow but some, a very small number indeed, feel that they should have the final decision about what is acceptable here. From that juncture they tend to bang on trying to make a point and become a nuisance until they "flounce" or have a "lie down" for a period.

FWIW, I agree that RN has lost a bit of the "Frontier" edginess it had previously. I'm all for a heated discussion about the merits of a hull or engine or technique, but when people stand up from the table and begin shoving and hurling abuse then it's time to call a halt, IMO. The Mods have to decide when and how to intervene and we're a little like the seaborne nuclear deterrent - if the sight of a periscope doesn't calm things down then we really only have the Ultimate Sanction left - and that can be messy! If members find themselves "advised" by Mods, it will generally be because their comments and contents are heading towards troubled water which from our experience more unhappiness will arise. Time was the REALLY bad boys went to Boatmad - looks like that's RIBnet now and the nice kids play on Facebook RHIBs group - where there are no jaggy edges on the slide or needles behind the shelter...

Dunno about Poly. I have unusual personal circumstances which allow me to dip in and out of RIBnet regularly most days. I find it highly amusing and it takes up remarkably little time because I speedread and tend to retain a good mental picture of what's current on here. If things are peaceful or dull then I visit less often. If I'm socialising, on holiday or at sea - then I couldn't be @rsed looking in at all

I'm a member of Boatmad too, and RHIBs - but I don't post much, call me Goldilocks, but RIBnet is JUST right for me!
