Who can tow my RIB ?

As an alternative to buying a car that can tow my RIB, I want to consider hiring somebody to tow it for me. Possibly this would be better for me as I won't need to tow the boat every weekend.
I am interested if anybody can tow my 9,75m Scorpion rib long distances, for example Belgium - Malaga ( and back 3 weeks later) in the summer and other similar (long distance) trips. I would have a trailer available but not the car. The total weight is expected to be 3.500 kg. Thanks

You could ask Kris from Brugge Marine Center. They are working with someone that trailers those 14m+ ring ribs all the way up to Sweden.

Have you thought of having it trucked down there. There must be plenty of hauliers ofering groupage services from Belgium. I did this and it worked out much cheaper. You will need to figure out how to get it off and on at either end but most yards will have a big enough fork truck.

I have a trolley not a trailer which use to store it in the yard. It also gives it more room when on the road vehicle. As you can see I deflated the tubes as I was concerned about the 2.60m beam and made sure it was loaded and secured carefully so there was no danger of the tubes rubing against the curtian stantions.

We then let the plane take the strain if that is what you call it when you travel Ryan Air!

If you decide to trail with your own trailer the other issue you may come across is the licencing of trailers in spain. Ribinspain has put some post up on this you may wish to read.

yes me again, a non Spanish trailor is fine in Spain as long as its been towed by a country of origin legal non Spanish car. If the trailor is non Spanish & tow vehicle Spanish, without proper papers you will get your boat & trailor impounded & I reckon your chances of being caught being somewhere near 99% as the police are everywhere & its easy money for them.

Fine is 600e so not worth the risk. Ignore what anyone says you will be caught & fined.

So stick with a non Spanish regd vehicle & operator & you will be fine.

Also, make sure you have ICC as they are starting to look at papers in the marinas.

ICC is International Certificate of Competence, essentially the result of a European piece of legislation that allows license holders within Europe to cross borders, or in our case allows nationals who are not required to hold a license in the 1st place to go boating abroad.

There are a few classifications(sail, power upto 10m, power upto 24m and PW) certs can also be endorsed coastal or inland.

Within the UK there are a handful of organisations who can hand out ICCs of which the RYA is the main body.Of the top of my head I think they are doing about 20K a year. Most RYA practical training centres are recognised to asses ICC in their given field ( ie sail/power/pw)

The ticket has no purpose or meaning within the British Isle but wil keep you legit when within the Baltic, Med, Atlantic Europe and inland waterways.
