Sea Survival

Could anyone tell me if the Offshore survival course can be transferred over for the RYA course or do u have to go and do it all over again even though the course is almost identical?

The Offshore Safety course includes the Sea Survival course. I guess it depends who is running it. When we do it we run it as a modular course over 2 separate days and we organise the content so that people can do Day 1 or Day 2 or both. That way, people who already have a Sea Survival ticket (see note below, though) don't necessarily have to do it again. I've even had a couple of people who didn't want to do Sea Survival, and they just came along for the rest of the programme.

NOTE: One odd thing about this course is that it does need a Sea Survival certificate which is less than 5 years from date of issue. Although in all other circumstances the Sea Survival lasts for ever, for the RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety ticket you do need to renew it.

Hope that helps

I'm also looking to do my Sea Survival course as I'm looking to get a commercial endorsement. All the courses that I have seen are one day so what's this two day course you mention?

Not sure Roger. Suggest you check with RYA Training 0845 345 0400.

The 2 day course is the RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety course, which is primarily for people racing yachts in category 2 races (ie offshore) - like the Fastnet Race, for example. For your commercial endorsement, the RYA 1 day Sea Survival course is fine, or an STCW Personal Survival Techniques course if you want to do it in a little more depth (no pun intended!)
