Portugese Commercial certificates and RYA equivalents

The Portugese authorities require those working on commercial RIBs to hold the following certificates/qualifications

Crew member - "marinheiro"
Skipper - "patrao da costa"

In these days of freedom of work within the EEC, is there compatability between RYA and the Portugese authorities? If so, to which certificates for each?
Any information on the procedure required to work on a RIb in Portugal would be appreciated

I have no idea.. but the idea of having to be a "Marine Hero" to work on a RIB raised a smile on this dull morning.....

Hey Tony did you allready find something out?

I'm facing the same thing you are, to get any clear information from the portugese authorities is difficult.

The best thing to do is find out by some local operators how they have done it.

If you have some more information, i would be very pleased to hear from you.

Marine Hero vs RYA

Ive just emailed 2 companies in Portugal who did there training with us and asked them the answer. One re trained with the Portugeses system, the other runs a British flagged vessel, ie its registered as British. She sais it may be a problem at some point running with a UK vessel but so far has been fine, she also said be friending the local harbour officail who has a taste for cheap wine has turned out to be a great investment.
