General Operator Certificate (GOC) course experience

Anyone got experience with the GOC examinations in the UK. I'm thinking of starting those in The Netherlands, since usually British certificates are a bit more practical.

- Studymaterials any good?
- Exams practical or very theoretical?
- Pass rate?

Thanks for any input, Geert-Jan

Goc

Hi. When I did mine the course was eight days long and about 75% theory and 25% practical. There is a lot to learn and even though radio engineering is my trade, I don't really think it could be done in less than eight days. The exam is quite a long written test followed by the radio officer practical exam in which a multi vessel distress is simulated and then a practical test using all the various radio/GMDSS equipment. Its a good course and certainly one in which you feel that you've actually learned something. Course materials were as think as the yellow pages!

Cheers

Will
