Commercial operators forum?

If there is a demand for it, I am happy to add a new forum for any group or subject (OK, within reason before some smart Alec pipes up!).

Do you see this as being an open forum like all the others, or a closed forum for commercial operators only? If the latter, some thought would need to be given to the practicalities of it (like what qualifies someone for access and how it would be administered)

John,

No thanks. Many people have helped me over the years and if I can help someone esle I will. I would much prefer to see everyone use the same forums rather than have "clicky" or "them and us" that way advice is shared, errors corrected (Manos kept in check JF stopped from insisting on Titianium fuel tanks etc) which is surely what a forum is all about.

But do have a big gold star for all your hard work keeping Ribnet running smoothly and acting as a lighthouse to all the new upstart speedboat forums. Particularly those that have recently appeared and need an occasion hand to run like a well oiled Yamaha rather than a dog tired Suzuki.

Peter

Couldn't agree more Pete 7. In my ignorant opinion JK, the non- commercial look of this forum is one of its most attractive features . By 'commercial' I just mean blatant adverts & in your face selling that is. It's good to know the commercial people are here and what comes across is their personal enjoyment of all things boaty. I find it helpful tho' when peeps make clear their vested interest(s) and like links to commercial websites etc. There to be used if needed.

Would it be worth splitting out all the commercial talk from the "General discussion" forum into a separate section, but keeping the access open to all?

This could be the way to go ! Before I found RIBnet , I signed on for a PB2 course , with no knowledge whatsoever of their "real " experience . As luck would have it I thought the course was OK . Later this year , I'll be looking for an Advanced Course . All other things being equal , I'd just as soon give my custom to a fellow RIBnetter .

Commercial area (with no commercials, obviously...)

Agree with Bern, Tim, Manos, etc!!

An open 'commercial' area for all those REALLY boring threads that my wife hates (but I find fascinating) would be fantastic. Especially as there are a lot of people on RIBnet who have been through what some of us (me at least) are currently considering - and may be able to help us out with some of the legal/procedural stuff!!

Yes!

I personally would like to see a commercial thread as it would allow a different view and source of info which wold be easier to reference

I'd also like to see those in the trade be indicated as such. Most people are quite open about their involvement but some aren't. The reason why I bring this up is it makes a great deal of difference if your comments result in your income being increased or maintained.

Presently there is an issue with insurance for commercial operation. Some underwriters don't do bare boat cover and one major underwriter is withdrawing cover for fast rib rides . That's something I'd rather have a chat with with Griffin marine, Islander or Quinquarimarine than Missus, Daniel or Richard B ( all good friends by the way)

We could get into discussing best practice for safety briefing, injury prevention, boat maintenance and passengers drinking at lunchtime on corporate days etc ( or all the time during Cowes week)

What I don't want to see is the thread be hijacked to sell stuff or services on but I would very much like to see a commercial operators thread!

OK, if we have a commercial operators forum, should it include training schools or just charter and tour companies?

All aspects too...

If possible I'd like it to cover all aspects too.

Wave has mentioned insurance etc in his post above, and I have just scratched the surface of that particular nightmare over the last week or so - so commercial advice on stuff like that would be really useful.

I would have thought that on an open commercial forum, while not everyone would read it, anyone who had an interest in running a RIB commercially would do - not just schools or current operators.
