Coding / Surveyor query....

Situation:

The 6.5m is due for an in the water inspection (yr 3) this June.... Currently with RYA as there was a local surveyor when we started (now retired). RYA have sent a list of surveyors.....nearest is Cardiff IIRC

The Pacific needs recoding in the next few weeks (coding expired last Dec before her makeover)..... It was with Mecal previously, who were really pleasant to deal with (and a damn sight easier than the RYA....just personal excperience). As an aside I'm also considering changing to 10 plus 2 rather than the previous 12 plus 2......

Eventually I would like all the boats (inc the Atlantic when done /next year and D Class) under the same umbrella.....

Questions are:

- Does anyone know a surveyor who is RYA and Mecal close to us /who travels (at a reasonable rate)
- Should I cut and run from RYA and go straight to Mecal (or other) for both /eventually all?

Your thoughts /advice appreciated Any surveyors fancy a weekend away in Pembrokeshire?....we have a cracking holiday house

Dan

Hmmmm

Maybe.

Have you got a link to the holiday house?

Pembrokeshire I've often thought about visiting!

Cheers

I use Mike Fox, all though he's YBDSA, Really good guy and very helpful, I changed my 9m from Mecal to YBDSA so it was the same as my other bits. hes based in North Wales and does travel, also very reasonable.

If going from 12+2 to 10+2, there are VAT implications, so check it out fully before you do.

Thanks Steve..... Do you mean in terms of the zero rating? My understanding was that 10 plus 2 still qualified...... In fact, this thread (although re fuel rebate early on) seems to indicate that 10 seats total was okay..... http://www.rib.net/forum/f30/fuel-rebate-42267.html

Anyone?????

Hi Dan

It was the Zero VAT rate to which I was referring not fuel.

And at your prompt I have dug out the HMRC doc again and stand corrected, my recall was "more than 10", however this is not the case.

As far as I was aware, 8 is the magic number when it comes to VAT. Either way, 10+2 should be fine.

Tim correct on 10+2 will be ok but licensed for 10 or more is start point on VAT if looking at zero rating issues on some charters
