Charter from Gunwharf Weds 19th

Anyone on here running a charter form Gunwharf this Wednesday ?

A word of warning my youngest daughter won a rib trip via school ... if it's you watch out ..she's used to being at the wheel and will be super critical ...

Gunwharf, that will be "Onboard Rascal" a Ribeye 785s and Yam 250. A very nice combination.

So any idea who may operate a Cobra out of Gunwharf ?

A couple of things I may want to catch up with them about after taking my youngest out yesterday ........

These guys used to do the odd charter. Not sure if they still do, but they're just across the harbour. I'm not aware of any Cobras based in GW that are coded at the mo.

Hi Peter,

My name is Jonathan. My company donated a RIB experience prize to Faith in Football's Business Enterprise Challenge competition last year which your daughter participated in.

Please give me a call on 07834 211888 when you have a moment so that we can discuss yesterday's RIB trip.

Many thanks,

Jonathan London

I run commercially from Gunwharf so have a particular interest, and perhaps even a little more 'direct local knowledge' as a result. Firstly, Nobody currently operates a Cobra out of Gunwharf, infact I'm the only operator of coded RIBs there.

Ribshare are local working colleagues, who I'm informed "did" collect a party of school-children from Gunwharf yesterday, but it wasn't a charter !

I'm also informed it was a totally free trip to Cowes offered to a local school made via a church group, and donated by Ribshare. The proprietor of Ribshare himself was helming the Cobra in question and he's worked alongside me and several other local commercial operators who are also regular contributors, many times over the last couple of years. During that time he's displayed extremely safe operating methods and in my experience, always exercised consistent sound judgement in respect of all operational safety matters.

It's commendable that he offers an opportunity to get out on the water, to local children, with the best of intentions, and without any gain for himself. For that he doesn't deserve to be pilloried by the self appointed 'Ribnet safety police' or become a further victim of implied suggestions of running an unsafe operation and perhaps his interpretation of events would evidence that !

I've been holding the Ribdotnet Safety Police to account for a number of years.

This PeterM is a relatively new recruit to the force. i think we should call him a Special Constable.

He's already got form though, just look at his recent post on the Lulworth cowboy thread.

I feared we would here from him following his daughter's trip with a Commercial operator. He will have been desperate to find something to criticise as he of course knows better, and his post strongly hinting of an "issue" was duly submitted.

Its now rather amusing to see him up against the wall following a couple of posts from the said operator and colleague; he obviously wasn't expecting that!

So let's hope this is going to be a lesson learned and think carefully before posting comments about commercial operators and potential business repurcussions.

I haven't seen PeterM trying to state or imply anything specificaly on this issue other than he wanted to follow up on something, he may have a concern which is a perfectly natural thing to follow up on seeing as its daughter who went out on the trip and as a fellow ribnetter and seing as he is involved in commercial skipperring and also like many of us are interested in improving safety partly due to the many incidences recently I cant see anything wrong with that.

I would like to hear what the concerns were which may help my own level of awareness around safety, (if it was a safety issue) I expect others on this forum would also welcome it. The more people talk about safety issues the more we are all better informed and can make proper risk based decisions.

OK - in the interest of openess my concern was around the seating in the Cobra used - which I have no problem with if used in the way they were intended etc etc ( I like Cobras - I think they are well built , solid & safe boats ) . I'd add my posts about kill cords were a joke due to the amount of kill cord posts going on - and that even my youngest is quite confident on a boat. I have no doubt at all about them being used in the charter industry - just in case that wasn't clear

A google of 'Charlie Hutton' - will explain all .

However I've swapped messages with Jonathan who was very reassuring about how things were conducted etc etc.

In summary I had a concern I felt was real & justified - however Jonathan has been in touch - all is good . He clearly runs a well established and responsible operation as does Kevin from Gunwharf . It was not a charter from Gunwharf - more of a pickup.

Case closed as far as I'm concerned - happy to buy a pint for Kevin / Jonathan - infact everyone on Ribnet should I ever get the chance to meet them - apart from 'that Timw' who I have PM'ed and asked to respond..... a true ribnobber ?
