But it was rather scary to drive at those speeds...
With 12 pers aboard it went 57 knots.

If you want a "steady as a rock"-boat capable of 65 knots with 14 people buy this one

A 9,5m Ring with twin 300 suz is doing 60kn, have rigged some that been doing up to 62 depending on the equipment, the 10,5m is approx 2-3 knots slower.
These data is with bravo i props, with the original suz props they do around 2kn less.
Fabian, we have now both 9,5m and 10,5m for testdrive in Stockholm, both with twin 300 Suz.

We did not find a boat that suited our use, so we designet one ourselves.
This is boat nr 3, and we are getting closer each time. Volvo D6/370, 55 ltr/hr dutyfree diesel in 45 knots with 10 pax. We will get new regulations for the business i Norway next year. It will probably be a speed limit of 45 or 50 knots with one Skipper/crew, so thats why we are satisfyed with the speed

Would one dare to opt for the 350 Verado engine to use on an charter application?

Have you considered the 9m Ribcraft?
We have one with twin 250hp Suzuki's, this gives us in excess of 59knots, with twin 300hp it will go faster.

I can't fault ours, good solid boat that handles all sea states very well. Very stable and the fit out is second to none, sorry Andre.
Likewise can't fault the Suzuki engines, 300 hours in just under 12 months and not skipped a beat.

Feel free to have a nose at our website, few pix on there, PM me if you want more.

www.horizonseasafaris.co.uk

Unlike a lot of boats in this class she looks like she is built for chater and not an off shore work boat. Having said that the Parker does looks good.

We are on the verge of ordering our second boat and it will take a hell of a lot of convincing for me not to buy another Ribcraft. In fact have just asked for a quote today.

you want to update your website then as it says 55 mph (48 knots) not that I fancy either of them sitting on the corporation bus seats you've got fitted to it

Doesn't contravene any of this:-

http://www.rib.net/forum/showpost.ph...53&postcount=1

It's not like anyone using the commercial section is likely to buy a seal watching experience...

I repeat the question, would the Mercury 350 Verado engine be a good choice for charter applications or is it a racing engine?

Yeah it does and I am leaving it at 55mph on the site. The site is aimed at customers and not us RIB mutters, don't want to scare them all off

The choice of seat was very carefully planned.
Our normal speed with passengers on is no more than 20-25 knots (dependent on sea state and can be less). Also we aim our trips at families and this includes children. IMHO jockey seats are not safe for people who's feet don't and can't touch the ground, hence bench seats.

SCM..........................if only. With regards to trade membership I can say, hand on heart, that Horizon Sea Safaris has not had one RIBNET member come and pay for a trip on our boat, so it would be fool hardy to think that the company gains from posting on here and since I no longer work for Standard Horizon or anyone else, at the mo, I don't feel trade membership is needed. I am, like many other members on here, just suggesting products that I have used and found to work well.

I just trust in the product, it does the job I need it to do and it does it well. Having driven and or worked on many types and makes this ,IMHO, is the best so far, all of my crew say the same thing. Who is to say that someone, sometime will not bring out a better boat.

Do you really need all that power/cost?
IMHO most charter companies try to run their boats by using the least fuel possible so whilst they may look good and push the boat along loike a missile is that what you need from you boat and engine combination?

If I didn't think that I would not need it then why ask the question? I'm prepared to consider them an option if they have the same reliability as the 300hp model, but since the 350 is a product of Mercury Racing I belive it's a racing engine and therefore not suited for charter use, this is what I want to know. Not If I "really need all that power/cost". Even the Yamaha V8 is an option.

For info, in Sweden we can withdraw VAT and taxes on fuel so its not very expensive here, approx 0,45 GBP per liter if you run commercial.
Our sea is totaly differnet from yours, we have approx 30,000 islands in Stockholm archipelago and approx 10,000 islands in Gothenburg archipelago.
Most of the charter companies over here need to have the possibility to offer the customer what they want, some wants speed some wants cruising and a pint as in the UK but its more uncommon than speed, what they want to find is economical speed, if customer wants 50 knots its better to have twin 300 or 350 than 250 because revs at 50kn is lower with bigger engines, most of you say that we have been running our engines for 600 hours with no problem, thats because your average rev is approx 2500-3000 revs, in Scandinavia the average is probably 4,500 revs and 600 hours per year and thats were everybody wants to find the economy and reliabiltity, today it doesnt mather wich brand of engines you choose (my opinion) its wich brand that gives the best service when you have problems, bad service and waiting time for spares etc means no income, all manufacturers of engines have their problems, isnt it electronic problems its gear boxes etc etc, but who helps when you standings still, thats what counts.
As we say in Sweden, you cant compare apples to pears.
You are mostely running open sea in the UK, here they run most of the time in the archipelago and flat water is boring in 25 knots specially if you going to a restaurant 35-40NM one way.
For example, Stockholm archipelago is approx 180km X 60km and restaurants are spread, 2-3 hours one way to go to a restaurant is to long if they looking forward to dinner, but one hour is OK.
Here its more like a quick taxi on water with speed and fun.
But still, there is still a lot of coast that doenst have any islands and it works similiar like in the UK.

Alpina is in one of the archipelagos.

I am confident that the improvement of the 350 makes it even more suitable for charter application, fuel consumption is said to be somewhat less than 2nd generation I am running (275) also lot of improvement to gearcase.

I am to have mine February and am looking forward to it.

Will be trying one in US shortly

It is not intended to be racing engine although the racing department engineered this version
