Best work/commercial RIBs?

Hello there.

I'm interested in buying a decent, robust work RIB that will take the knocks of coming alongside and nosing onto bigger boats in fairly rough seas, will carry at least 4 passengers (plus driver), handles well in rough seas and is capable of doing at least 30 knots, preferably with an in-board diesel engine. Something between 5 - 10m should do the job. Prepared to pay good money for the right boat (new or second hand).

Would be grateful for any suggestions, as not too familiar with work/commercial RIBs.

Many thanks . . .

Hi Gaz, your profile says you have a Parker.
Which model do you have. There are only two Parker ribs in Poole which I know of and both are 9 mtrs. Is your rib a Parker 750RS with a Verado 275?

I would suggest, and why not, a Parker 750/900 or even the 1000 Baltic . If the 10 mtr version then only twin diesel

the 750Baltic would be well suited with the twin QSD 2.0 170HP or with single QSD 4.2 320HP

Andre,

I was driving that Parker for someone else - not in Poole - but that has all finished now (I'll get it removed from my profile asap). I hear what you are saying, but I didn't feel that the Parker was robust enough for what I need, especially the tubes, and especially the tubes around the nose which were not 'fat' enough/ protruding enough to prevent the hull from bashing up against larger boats when nosing on. Could do with something with bigger, more robust collars.

I guess what I'm really interested in is finding out which brands of work RIBs are generally considered to be the best/most robust/most reliable/sea boats, which also handle well and can nip about at 30 knots, and then I'll take it from there.

I guess I should also be posting this in the commercial section, right? Sorry, but new to the forum.

Andre, I'm gonna drop you a PM.

If something like a Parker isn't enough (as they are extremely well thought of) I guess you are probably into military Halmatic territory which is proper money!

The Dutch coastguard use something called a Duarry, they had a write up in RIB International a year or two back and it looked pretty awesome but presumably also telephone numbers in the price.

This isn't the CG boat but one they reviewed later:

May be worth a look, never even seen one but if my lottery numbers came up ...

The company to 'talk to' on the Duarry's is not Datema anymore, but is now called North Sea Rescue and Workboats b.v., their website : http://www.nsegroup.nl/
and yes they make excellent boats ........

If i may make a suggestion: Delta's are also very nice ofcourse and ,although scarcely available, they do in fact surface 2nd hand every now and then (even with an inboard engine - mine is 6,8 meters with a Yanmar inboard diesel).
Delta has however a rather strict policy on purchasing a 'new' one from their factory/yard. Getting one 2nd hand, even if in medium condition and upgrading it, may be worthwhile (it is for me at least, since they are in my opinion put together very well and you get an awful lot of boat for your money).

good luck !
Gabor

That's a bit like saying you're looking for a van and something between a Berlingo and a Cargo would do the job! Completely different, and suited to different jobs.

If this is something that you are serious about it would probably be worth thinking it through a bit more. What do you actually hope to use the boat for?

Or something like Rogue Wave's 8.4m Searider. Plenty of tube width on the bow for nosing on there

have a look at the pivtures of this boat, it's proper commercial spec and see what feature it has that lemd itself to commercial work.

The buils build spec is first class and in the sameleague as Delta, Halmatic, Ocean Dynamics and MST. Have to say however if I was speccing for a company it would be difficult not to go to MS.

When you say coming alongside niger boats are you talking yachts or ships?
theres a big diference to how you spec the boat as the envoirenment forthe |RIBis a lot different .

Are you morelikely to ne doing vrew transfer, cargo or both

Will you ne going on to Wind farm pylons (again big difference to specor modify

|Diving supprt.

I'm thinking there is a coupleof interesting boats in Poole at the mment one is an OD that lives on the river jus by Poole Bridge. It belongs to Johhny Tugboat and is usually moored alonside Goliath. Thats a very useful boat

Theres also a diver whi is running a PAc 28 with ayanmar going through a Castoldi.nice boat but underpowered

. I think that lives just down the river past Jenkins yard

I was going to say you can't do much with a 5 metreboat but we used to do 20nm crew tansfers in our SR4.7 (but they is very special innit) owever you won't get any sense out of a diesel rib thats under 6.5m

. I think that lives just down the river past Jenkins yard
