On behalf of ORDA I would like to let you all know about the National finals at Torquay - going to be a fantastic event with 3C, V24, OCR and Ski-Racing. Hopefully RIB racing as well, but waiting to see if boats are back from Egypt in time!

Also we are going to run a basic race - where pretty much anyone can enter. Got to meet basic rules and be a member of a club - ORDA membership even better! A great chance to show what a RIB can do ....

Anyway the event is from 28th September to the 1st October.

No RIB racing I'm afraid - following on from our discussion at the boat show - the boats definitrely will not be back from Egypt in time despite continued promises they would be back for the 27th - as a result of this I am now unable to defend my British Championship this year and presumably there will be no champion this year?

I also feel sorry for ORDA who will have to do without the entry fees for the championship boats as well as the European boats that were meant to be coming over to race against us!

I have been very kindly offered a Thundercat to race in Portugal instead, so I'm off to sunnier climes - Kitten will be in Torquay with the leisure boat!

Big shame - and I'm afraid that there has to be big questions about how benefitual the Egypt event was for British powerboating.

As a club (ORDA) we have lost entries and a class at Torquay, possibly the same at Littlehampton before the event and Cowes also lost the RIBs. Now the championship for RIBs is de-valued or whatever???

As per my post - nothing against the event at all - but I believe it has had a negative effect on RIB racing (which was already struggling in numbers) in this country.

This is certainly backed up by lack of RIB entries at two of my clubs events and as chairman of that club I have to speak my opinion for the good of that club. The Egypt event was heavily promoted by our RYA but I don't think it was completely thought through re. timings and impact on the British clubs.

Again nothing against the event or the racing that occured at that event.
