Any Revengers fallen apart? Some people who post on here run their boats VERY hard with 12 people on board - their Scorpion gave them probs but they have had no trouble with Revengers.

I have a RIB with a Revenger type hull and it's awesome in the rough - 20' waves are no problem to it but I assume the waves in the Red Sea were short and sharp - that does give a boat a much harder time than bigger longer waves.

As to the Greek waters being like a millpond I know you can get pretty nasty conditions but the Atlantic Ocean in full spate can be quite a scary place!!!

I don't think that any of the manufacturers have entered the rally. They may not have much information at the moment either (although they may well be hearing about it when the teams get home!).

You seem to have more information sources than most, but you don't appear to have a lot of information either!

How is the Bananashark getting on?

John, I never wrote "All the English boats have fallen apart and the Greek boat is winning." As I said, so far the serious competitors have abandoned due to structural fails. Some details:

1st Leg: The Bladerunner's console was cracked and they lost the GPS data, so they could not steer to the waypoint and left behind (5th in that leg). The SR9 came 2nd (10' behind the 1st Topline) facing some problems. Sea condition 4 to 5, rough swells in the middle, better at the end where the boats hit top speeds. Topline's average speed about 48 knots.

2nd leg: 140 (initially) nautical miles going south across the African coast. Sea condition very rough (6 to 7), waves aft. The organisers ended the route to the refuelling point, thus covering 91 nm due to the many abandonments. Rear hulls (mirrors) were broken, consoles too, inflatables sides were gone, hull breaks reported. Up to now, I don't know further details (what happened to whom) -I do know though that they abandoned the race not due to engine malfunctions, neither because they hit some rocks! Most of the boats returned towed to the starting point. Topline was 1st again with average speed about 40 knots, over 1 hour from the 2nd, without suffering any problem.

3rd leg: Rough seas again, up to 7 sea condition head, 60 nm distance. Topline 1st (15' ahead the 2nd) with average around 30 knots. The 4th (and last) leg takes place right now, no further info yet.

I just HAD TO buit in from Sharm El Sheickh as we cannot believe what is discussed in here!!!!

1. The Greek boat made by TOP LINE name PARALOS number G50 has WAN THE RACE AND ALL CLASSES TOO
2. Most of the British boats (I am being polite and I'm not saying ALL) have suffered various damages and could not take the weather. The damages werwe NOT MECHANIOCAL but structual or periferal. Will post details once back home.
3. Paul Lemmer (who I believe we all respect for his knowlege and experince and who was racing here) ased me to convey this message. THE GREEK BOAT WAS THE BEST BY FAR. IS A GREAT BOAT WITH A GREAT DRIVER. IT HAD TO WIN.

Any more discussion on this is wasted time I believe

The champions

Why ? I'm asking Biggles, who obviously knows that they weren't correctly prepared. He must has access to the information to back up the comment and all I'm asking is that he share it with the rest of us "lesser informed mortals".

In answer if as has been said the Brit boats fell to bits then some part of their preperation couldn't have been 100 %.
Maybe it was the standard of equipment they had, maybe it was their understanding of the conditions that would be met.
Whatever, now they've done a race they will learn from their experience and be better prepared for the next go.
No, I don't have any more information than what is said on this Forum, I'm just trying to state what appears to be the obvious.
Don't take any offence. If you were guaranteed to win something then their wouldn't be much point in taking part. It wouldn't really be a challenge.
Next time if a Brit does win then then at least he will feel as though he has achieved something.

More than the English Football team have managed to do over the last 40 years. The Greeks have even beaten us at that.

Very well done to the Topline team by the way. Whatever the reasons for the other boats' problems, they got a good result on what sounds like a very hard race.
