In Tims defence would it be correct to call on the rescue services of the Solent when arranging an on water event unless a real emergency arose. Any event held on the water would almost certainly have its own fleet of safety vessels.


With regards to is it dangerous going around the island the answer to that has to be yes if the boats arnt prepared adequatly and the trip has not been planned correctly.

I would agree that any trip to sea can be "dangerous" if the boat is not prepared, however, i fail to see what planning is required for a circuit of the island, other than deciding whether to go clockwise or counter clockwise. Sea conditions would play the biggest part in setting a record, and I've always found it difficult to plan those.

You instructor guys make it all sound so difficult!

Ang on, your one of me mates! Puddlefoot did go rather well, and he only used a pair of 150's Hasn't a South African rib been round quicker since then, or was that before that revenger.

Not being negative but it's been raced round loads of times unless you can beat these times why bother.....from an old boatmad post 2005....and some of these times must be ribs

As there was three starts within the Basic 'round the island' race, some of the timings posted by Ben are not quite right.

Only the first start results were correct.

The clock was started as 'Negotiator' crossed the line, and the time it took to get the other starts under way needed to be deducted from their elapsed time.

So corrected elapsed times are:
