Race with BananaShark in Cardiff

Your chance to be a navigator in a National Championship Formula 2 RIB

As you all know the Bananashark is taking part in the National Racing Finals at Cardiff from the 1st untill the 3rd of October. As usual we are looking forward to it!

There is a Basic Race on the Sunday (3rd October) and every year we like to have a collection for a local charity. This year it’s going towards our local hospital in Kingsbridge.

But we would like to put 50% towards another charity this time. And that’s the Ileostomy Association, recently highlighted here on RIBnet (Round Ireland Trip). I’ve talked it over with the people involved and everyone’s very keen!!!

We would like to invite any of you who wish to, to contribute to our Basic Race effort for charity

And there’s something in it for you !!!
I’ve discussed this with JK and you can Pledge online.
The highest bidder will be offered the chance to be my navigator in the Basic Race!!! (Subject to licence - all this can be done on the day) There will be other goodies on offer to the succesfull person as well such as BananaShark clothing!

I will open this to Non-RIBnet members and they will be able to put in a bid at banana-bid@ntlworld.com .
The bids will be constantly updated; some by you when you bid on RIBnet…some by us when we check the email.

So now’s your chance to get involved in the Powerboat Racing circuit AND do some good as well !!! Bidding will close on September 28th to allow time for the new navigator to prepare and discuss their role with me. There will be a lot of support for them. They will need to fund their costs (hotel, licence fee etc) including post-race beers! They will be covered by RYA 3rd party insurance.



In the unlikely event of Bananashark not being able to take part in the Basic, we will try to make other arrangements (Plan B ), and it is of course weather permitting!



If anyone wishes to contribute prizes also please pm me and they will be included. Hope to see some of you in Cardiff cheering on the race teams!

Unfortunately will be in Greece. But then again I can take the plane and come for the weekend.
So ........... 200 quid for me as a navigator for ya (bet if I am the navigator we will end up in Alaska But hey that's the fun!!)
What is subject to licence means??

...and before I go just a quick question. Do you use GEKO racing helmets? If you do are they any good?

Manos - Mmmmmm never been to Alaska, bit early for skiing I think!- You have to get a day licence and insurance from the RYA (I will publish details of the costs for this tomorrow) - We used Gecko helmets for the first time in Cowes and as far as day to day use is concerned they are very light which means less fatigue on the neck muscles during rough races and therefore concentration levels don't drop if you are less tired - I hope we never have to put them to the purpose for which they were designed though!

We also have GEKO helmets the standard staff. They are quite comfi and light as you say. We are pleased with them. Used them three times so far on the rescue RIB when we went get some people out of trouble.

Was just asking as we may be racing a boat in Greece next season and may be will go for the GEKO racing again and just wanted an unbiased opinion about them. Thanks
